Zupee wallet and KYC — what gets verified, in what order

Zupee’s wallet is the in-app balance for paid rounds. KYC unlocks withdrawals. Below walks through what gets verified at each stage (sign-in, top-up, first withdrawal), what documents the desk uploaded for the test, and what happens if a verification is rejected.

The Zupee wallet holds two balances:

  1. Cash balance. Money you’ve paid in via UPI, netbanking or card.
  2. Bonus balance. Bonus credits, streak rewards and refer-and-earn milestones. Bonus balance is withdrawable only after KYC and a minimum number of paid rounds.

The desk recommends treating the wallet like any prepaid instrument: cap the top-up, withdraw excess, and don’t leave a large idle balance.

Top-ups

Top-up runs through one of three PSPs — typically Cashfree, PayU or Razorpay — chosen at random by the app. Each PSP shows its own redirect window; once the payment confirms, you bounce back into the Zupee app.

  • Minimum: around ₹50 in our last test.
  • Maximum per top-up: ₹10,000 by default.
  • Time to credit: 4–8 seconds on UPI, longer for cards.

Withdrawals and KYC

Withdrawals unlock after KYC. The KYC steps in our last fresh-account test:

  1. PAN verification — Two-letter first name, four-letter middle, six-letter last name must exactly match. We re-uploaded twice for an OCR case sensitivity issue.
  2. Aadhaar or Voter ID — One of these covers the address leg.
  3. Bank account or UPI — Either can be the destination. UPI ID is faster (single redirect).

The first verification took ~14 minutes on our Pixel test device with strong network; subsequent verifications returned in under 90 seconds.

What if verification is rejected

The most common rejection cause is a name mismatch on the PAN document. The desk’s recommendations:

  1. Re-upload with the photo under better lighting. OCR handles low-light photos poorly.
  2. If the name still mismatches, submit a banker’s proof of identity letter at the customer care entry point.
  3. For PAN rejection, file a PAN correction with the Income Tax e-filing portal and re-upload once the correction is reflected.
